About Kelvin

A native of New Haven, Connecticut Kelvin Harris has emerged as a young and talented leader within both the higher education and non-profit sectors.

Kelvin has risen to become one of the youngest leaders at the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization, as the Director of Leadership Development Programs and Alumni Relations for the Gates Millennium Scholarship.

In addition to his professional career, Kelvin co-founded the Harris Jones Consulting Group, an organization that aims to positively impact educational communities, non-profit organizations, and corporations to engage them to think and act critically, intentionally and strategically about diversity and leadership to facilitate organizational change and transformative learning experiences.

Kelvin has presented at numerous local, regional, and national conferences on topics of Student Success and Retention, Black Male Achievement, Ethical Leadership, The Development of Men Achieving Leadership Excellence and Success, The Art of Mentoring and various other topics.

Kelvin founded and co-founded several chapters of Men Achieving Leadership Excellence and Success (M.A.L.E.S), a growing organization that focuses on the leadership development and image of men of color on college campuses.

Kelvin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport and Leisure Management from Eastern Connecticut State University where he was awarded the Outstanding Service to Student Affairs Award and also named Outstanding Senior of the Year in 2005, an accomplishment that no other student has achieved within the same year. Soon after graduating, Kelvin served seven (7) years as a Board member of the ECSU Alumni Association. Kelvin also holds a Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida International University and an initiate of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Kelvin is in pursuit of his Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership at Northeastern University.

Kelvin resides in Camp Springs, Maryland with his wife Akilah and children, Ethan & Elle. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing basketball and assisting families as a licensed Realtor in Maryland.
